That frog photo is outstanding, well done! You've made the right decision, a lens can always be repurchased. Best wishes for the surgery and recovery.

As an alternative, you might check to see if you have a vet college nearby. They are usually state of the art and charge a heck of a lot less than the surgery at a regular vet. The University of Illinois has an outstanding vet college and they do tons of ACL repairs. They have 2 days a week set aside just for orthopedic appointments. I would rather have the surgery done by someone who does tons of them than someone who does 1 or 2 a month. I had a friend who had an ACL repair done at the University, and it was something like 1/3 of the cost. I know you are in Maryland, but it would be worth looking into. I found a Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Here's a link to it if you're interested. http://www.vetmed.vt.edu/ Julie Ford

I went to the national zoo last week with a couple of people here. Check out the POTN, northern Virginia forum. I was waiting almost all day for the stupid frog to get on the lily pad but, no luck. I really do like the bengal tiger photo. Brilliant! ~Nathan

Sorry to hear about the lens--- the nice thing is that the 70-200 2.8 is a pretty easy one to sell-- I hope the puppy is doing well. Scott

I had to have my Rot put down a little over a year ago and I still miss her terribly. Great pets and so loving and faithful. I want another but don't want to face having to make a similar decision again. For me, the memories will have to do for now. Good luck with the recovery.

Oct 11, 2008 10:09 | #30 Thanks all for the kind thoughts. Dave, I know how you feel. When our previous rottie died of cancer we thought we would never get another dog. That lasted all of about three months and my wife came home one day with this beautiful rottie pup that someone had taken to the local kill shelter. As you can see, she's grown into a beautiful dog and though we still remember 'Max,' Cassie has filled that void that he left.
