We encountered this pretty female Pygmy Falcon on a back road in the Kgalagadi as we headed back to camp after a game drive. Olli spotted it which was amazing considering how well it was hidden in the bush and how small: they are more Shrike like in size than Falcon size! She wasn't really too bothered about us.

Taken with 1D Mk II N and 400mm 5.6 L with 1.4x combo at 1/640 f8.0 and 200 ISO.

Other than the color they resemble the American Kestrel in build and shape, Great captures.

Cheers for the comments folks. The Kgalagadi is an amazing place for all sizes and shapes of Raptor and for birds in general. I love it there. Very different to many other national parks and much more challenging in terms of viewing.
