Crumpler Bucket vs. MDH?

Hey all,

I have a Crumpler 7MDH and a 5MDH. Love both bags. The 5MDH is the bright yellow/red, while the 7MDH is the ever popular oatmeal/green color. I love how both bags protect my gear and don't look like camera bags. But being a woman, I'd like more options when it comes to my bags. Women use purses more than messenger bags, so even though it doesn't *look* like a camera bag, on me, it doesn't quite look like a *purse.* I'll either have to dress up as a college undergrad (no offence), or I'll look like I'm carrying something expensive in that bag that doesn't match my outfit.

I don't like Jill.e bags, so I am considering the large Crumpler bucket that I can use in purses as well as put my other girly things in. My gearlist so far is as follows:

40d w/Camera Armor
50 1.8
17-55 2.8 IS
28-135 IS (I'll probably leave this at home eventually)
580EX II Speedlite

I hope to add to my collection a 70-200L 2.8 IS (but not until after Christmas probably).

I use the 5MDH as my walk-about currently, and we use the 7MDH to hold everything else and for when we travel.

So has anyone used the bucket, either in a Complete Seed messenger bag, or in a different bag?

They're not built the same as the MDH despite the fact they go into bags as large or larger than those. I'd advise getting inserts over a bucket. I tried one out with my Dreadful Embarrassment and I rally didn't like it. Reduce the height a lot and just seemed to take up more space than anything else. They are big so it's not like you can just get one to fit gear and hope to put the bucket in another bag.

I used a Nanue Pro insert then cut it down to size to fit into my Target bag I bought. Works great and was A LOT cheaper than the bucket. If you get the 70-200 a bucket wouldn't even work for you not to mention carrying all that would move you up to a much bigger bag. $80 could be well spent elsewhere.

Also, a woman's purse always have something expensive or else people wouldn't snatch them and run.

Haha, you're quite right! Purses can be a hassle, though they're quite handy at the same time.

I've contacted Naneu to order inserts, and the person I spoke with (Mike?) wasn't very thrilled at the idea of selling only inserts to me. I emailed the dimensions I was interested in, but haven't heard back. It's been a few weeks, and granted, there have been a few hurricanes, but I didn't feel very confident I would be able to get the Naneu inserts.

I'm probably the only one, but I actually like that the Bucket has a lid and handle. My purses have alot of *junk* in them, i.e. pens, papers, receipts, keys, cell phone, so the lid would protect the camera from all that. I've never actually seen a "well organized" purse that was remotely fashionable, but that's my opinion.

^Really? Mike seemed to sell a few for awhile when someone got some and mentioned it. I always say lie and just that something happened to yours and you needed a replacement for *insert bag here* and there ya go. Domke and...another company have inserts as well. You do realize how big those buckets are right? You keep talking like it'll just go into any purse...

My wife has a rather large Vera Bradley bag and the bucket trumps it. In fact you want the largest one which is bigger than the 7MDH.

I finally found the dimensions of that bucket online, and yeah, it's quite large! I've seen some gargantuan purses, and I always thought they were larger than some messenger bags, but oh my, this bucket is BIG. I knew it wouldn't go into any of my tiny purses, but no, I don't have a purse large enough for this anyway; I'd have to find something super large, and that's not going to work regardless.

I wasn't too thrilled with the Domke inserts when I saw them. I really like the Crumpler inserts, though. I think you've convinved me that the bucket isn't going to work for my needs. I think I'll give Mike another call.

^Just do what I told you. I think maybe too many people started doing it, which I'm not sure why that's a problem, they're making money on things that practically cost nothing I'm sure.
