the 40D battery

I have a random quick question.
i have a 40D coming via fed ex tomorrow morning and literally within an hour or so after its arrival, I have a shoot.

does anyone know if I could use my fully charged 20D battery on my new 40D? Or are they totally diff batteries??

I've done a search on google, and there is a generic one available as a 40D replacement, however it says it also fits the 20D. This may be of use, but I'm not 100% convinved.


Canon 40D, 580EXII, BG-E2N, RS-80N3 (Remote), Velbon Vel-flo 5 PH 248 (Tripod), Velbon RUP-43 (Monopod), Hoya CP Filters
Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 USM Canon EFS 17-85/4.0-5.6 IS USM, Canon EF 28-300mm F/3.5-5.6 L IS USM, Canon EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS USM.

I'm just going to charge up my 20D battery tonight, and swap it out when my 40D arrives and go shoot :)

The 40D takes the BP511 battery.

The battery for the 40d charges extremely fast, you should be able to get it going right before you leave.

The 40D battery is a BP511A 1350Mah battery and the 20D has the BP511 1100Mah. They're both interchangeable the one just lasts longer.
