I am dearly fond of the Ec-L screen I use with my 1D3. Now that I have a 24L TS-E, I thought I would check to see if anyone knew of someone or some place that could etch a grid on my screen.

You can buy focusing screens with grids on them, I'm not too sure where though, I suppose google could answer that though, perhaps there are some on ebay.

I know, but thanks anyway. I want to keep the screen I have because I really like it's cross split image focusing aid. If possible, I would like a grid etched on this screen.

Even in the MF days, Canon didn't offer gridded screens with split image or microprism, IIRC.

I know, that's why I was wondering if someone or someplace could add an etched grid to my screen. My Mamiya RB67 had a Brightscreen 20/20 that had both a split image aid and the grid. I know I can get a Brightscreen 20/20 with a choice of several focusing aids and grid, but I really want to keep the cross split image aid I now have and would like to add a grid to it. I think I will contact Brightscreen and see if they would add a grid to my screen as they do ones they offer.

I received this reply from Katz Eye Optics (reticles.com), "It is against our policy to service focusing screens manufactured by other companies, so we cannot assist with this request."

And this from Brightscreen, "Actually we do have a lot of different Brightscreens in stock not listed including the EC-L. Currently all 35 MM screens are on sale for $159.96 and it would be $ 50.00 to add the #3 crop + SHI delivery. At this time we do not offer just adding crops to users own screens. Thank you very much for your inquiry. It is against our policy to service focusing screens manufactured by other companies, so we cannot assist with this request."

Wow; I've had such great service from Katz eye I would have BET that they would have done it.
When searching for info before I bought my Katz eye screen; I did some across someone who used an exacto knife after measuring the grid lines off another focus screen. After all; they're only plastic.

Good Luck.
