I use the mouse that came with my "Bamboo Fun" pen tablet.
It works just fine for me, it doesn't use batteries,
and my daughter won't fry her eyes on a laser if she gets a hold of it.

I use the basic Apple Wireless mouse, but rechargables are a must :)

I had the Mighty Mouse but it was a pain to use. To inaccurate and the scroll didn't work so good. Problem with bluetooth connection. Many Mac forums says that it have to be replaced often. So I just put it aside to be never used again.
I bought a Logitech Nano.
It works like a dream. Highly recommended. The receiver is so small that you don't notice it. And it works at a distance also.

Kudos to this thread for making me realise that I don't want a Mighty Mouse, seems like a bit of a pain. I'll stick with using the scroll bars :)

I had a very cheap tablet. BT something...
The pen was so bad that I had to open it, to adjust the battery, so that it would connect. At the end it short circuited and almost caught fire.
But I really miss a tablet. The mouse is good for surfing but when you do PP it can't compare to a tablet. So I am thinking of getting the Bamboo Fun.

You should look into a tablet that combines a mouse.

The laser isn't actually visible.
No worry about damage to eyes in the regard of laser in this use since the power level and wavelengths are going to have no optical effect to a persons eyes.

The fact that it's not a visible wavelength doesn't mean it can't harm your eyes. Most consumer grade laser pointers and the lasers in mice aren't really that dangerous simply because of their power output though. Not wise to stare in to but not instant damage like more powerful lasers (visible or otherwise).

Additionally, just because you aren't sensitive to a wavelength doesn't mean your eyes might not focus it on to the retina, I'm not sure where the eye's transmission begins to drop off though.

But since we are talking about laser mice, and not lasers in general, the laser in these things is not going to harm your eyes. As I said in my post due to wavelengths and power output.
Being nothing visible at all takes away the interest a child would have in it, and the extremely low power that these put out removes pretty much all danger from this laser system. But thanks for taking the rest of the context out of my post with your quote.

Batteries? In your pen? Wired to something? Mercy, I'd dump the tablet too if that were the case with the Wacom Inuous3 tablets. No batteries, no wires (except for the pad's USB connection). Unfortunately I haven't lwearnedh how to type iwth the pen in my right hand. But I keep trying.

Perhaps I took it out of context, but your wording does seem to imply two things. One, that since it's invisible it can't hurt you, and two that the combination of wavelength and power make it harmless. While the second is a true statement I wanted to clarify on the first point since someone might get a very very bad idea from what you said.
