G3 LCD Failure

I left my G3 in the car overnight at 10 degree F.

I used the camera the next day and it would take pictures, but the LCD would not display in replay mode and will only display in Stitch Assist mode while in shooting mode.

Is there anything that can be done short of sending it to Canon - which quoted me a $100 -$300 charge just to perform a diagnostic...

are you sure it's a technical malfunction related to the cold environment? Then it would not work in stitch mode, either, right?
Sounds more like you pressed the wrong button and turned off display. Or the switch that detects if the LCD is turned around might be defective.

Maybe you should try resetting the camera to factory settings and see if it makes any difference. Also, see if you can see a picture on an external monitor/TV using the TV out cable.

I reset the camera to its factory default and this did not resolve the problem.

I hooked up the camera to a TV and was able to view my pictures. I checked the LCD and it gave me an image in the replay mode. In the shooting mode it would only display in the Movie, Stitch, Night, Panoramic, and Portait modes - no image in Auto, P, etc.

I then hit the Display button in the P mode and the LCD flashed, but still no picture. I went to the menu and set the LCD brightness to the brighter setting and hit the Display while still in the P mode. The LCD flashed again but did not keep an image.

I went back to the LCD Brightness setting to set it to the dimmer setting and hit the Display button. This brought the LCD back to life in all modes!! FANTASTIC!

I set the LCD Brightness to its brighter setting again and the LCD did not fail.
