Okay, I currently have LR 1.4.1 (Education Version) and since it can't be upgraded I bought 2.0 Education Version and need to uninstall 1.4.1 and Install 2.0. My question is how do I make sure my catalog moves over as well? I've gone and backed up the Catalog folder (it's the Lightroom folder in my My Pictures folder on Windows)--can I just uninstall 1.4.1, install 2.0 and then copy that folder to the 2.0 folder? Did some searching on Google but most places just explain how to backup but not really how to restore. I'm thinking that I'm doing it right, but if someone can confirm I'd feel a lot better about it. Thanks.

i installed lightroom 2.0 before i uninstalled lightroom 1.4.1. i'm running on vista x64 so it installed in another folder don't know about you but i didn't have to transfer anything. lightroom 2 automatically took the current catalog in.

Just open the catalogue in LR2.0 and it will ask you if you want to convert it to the new spec.

Uninstalling LR 1.4 shouldn't take the catalogues with it, at least on a Mac it doesn't, Windows should be the same. If unsure just copy the catalogues to a new location and then uninstall 1.4.

Can you "not" convert it when you open the catalog with 2.0? I'd wanted to run my current 1.4 on my machines at work with the lower hardware required specs and buy a new LR 2.0 for my personal machines (instead of buying a $99'ish update). I hadn't anticipated a problem with running images back and forth from 1.4 to 2.0. Is it possible to do what I want to do?

I'd wait for a wee while before converting there is sometimes issues with converting catalogues with lost data (in the LR2 catalogue).

LR 2.1 has been released as a Release Candidate status which means it's likely to be around the corner to be released as fit for purpose. It addresses some of the main show stoppers in LR2 for some people (like not opening PS for editing!).
