Have had a search but nothing really that conclusive.

Do the 3rd Party versions have exactly the same functionality?

I can get a 3rd party for half the price but if the canons definitely worth it then i'll get that.

Cheers

I haven't seen one - I can attest to my Canon - a "real" N3 plug, very flexible and non-kinking wire, does what it claims. Canon controls the rights to the N3 plug - most (if not all) do not have the locking mechanism of the "real" n3 plug.

Offhand, I can't recall a third-party remote with the N3 connector that does intervalometer, controlled number of multiple shots, variable self-timer and long exposures in any desired combination.

The Phottix TR-80 is identical in functionality and looks. Several folks have purchased one back when I had a handful to offer.

Here is a recent review of this unit.

we've be talking about this on FM, and I've bought two from ebay - most people seem to say the canon brand just isn't worth the money and that there's no real difference

I've been thinking of getting a knockoff grip that has the intervalometer built into it (http://cgi.ebay.com …iewItem&item=230410116016 (external link)). Does anyone know if you can leave the shot count to "0" on these knockoffs to have continual shooting until turned off or the battery dies? Just curious...

I have the eBay generic version of the TC-80N3. It's really excellent does everything the real TC-80N3 does but at 1/4th the price.

I try and always buy from Link-Delight NA on eBay and this is even cheaper than what i paid for it.

i'm deciding between 2 of these:

1) http://cgi.ebay.com …K:MEWAX:IT#ht_2500wt_1167 (external link)

or

2) http://cgi.ebay.com …RK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3214wt_952 (external link)

or

3) Buy OEM Canon TC-80N3 remote locally used for $120CAD.....

I save about $90 buying on eBay w/ china knock off. I worry about the China one breaking or miss firing and miss the shot. Has anyone ever had any problems with their China ones or should I spend the $90 and get the OEM Canon?

Note: for $90 saved I can get the B+W ND #106 that I need.....

Please help!!

Thanks,

I have this one, and I bought it specifically because it can do unlimited shots (or at least until the battery runs out). I have not had any problems with mine.

I have exactly the same one in the pic above from the same vendor (with eBay I think the vendor is important too).

Been using it since September 09. It works perfectly except that it does not illuminate the dial (as of yesterday). Which is not really a problem for me since I usually have other light sources when I work in the dark.

I bought a Phottix from TeamSpeed and I can tell you that it is functionally no different from the Canon. The only thing it lacks is the locking mechanism (N3) and I've not had a problem with it falling out of the plug.

Lucky for me, that's who I bought mine from just by chance. Glad to hear it does everything the Tc-80n3 does.

Ooh...

In the end I bought a TC-80N3 for £90 Del. Works wonderfully.

Canon quality > * to be quite honest.

I bought one of the Hong Kong versions - and it worked well for a while - but recently It just stopped doing the shutter release - can't get it to fire the shutter at all - will be getting a canon one soon
