I have lost my Adapter for the Epson P-3000.
Finding a replacement from Epson seems tougher than I have thought.
As far as I know, the power input was a DC 5V 2.3A.
I have found a generic (Rshak) dc adapter, 5V but 2amps. (so 300miliamps lower).

It seems to work ok with the device for short periods of time (I just tried it once at the store, and once here) also real time features like playback and photo display and copying seems to be done without problems.

Am I going to miss the 300miliamps?...
Should I wait and try to get a special order Epson Adapter?... (Below are the electric specs as per the P-3000 manual)

Anyhow, just looking for your input from the technical side.

I'd also be rather 2.5 or 3amps than a little bit low, but again, I would hate to destroy this handy little device I could not easily replace.

Cheers,

2A should be fine. It's a MAXIMUM of 2.3A, I don't think the extra 300mA is going to matter too much.

Some cameras, some lenses, plenty of gaffer's tape and beer.

5 Volts at 2 amps is 10 watts. The unit says it draws 7.9 off the AC supply so (assuming we're talking about power at the unit's connector, not at the AC socket) you should be fine.

Mario, FEEL the power supply you're using after it's been doing its job for a while and see if it gets hotter than just a little warm to the touch. If so, you may want to get a different supply with more capacity.

This is one of those areas where it gets complicated...

When a power supply spec is sent out for bid voltage and current are not the only criteria.
Voltage regulation
Ripple
Noise
Surge current
Isolation
grounding

edit: forgot: plug size, type, and polarity.

Are just a few of the considerations.

For example an unregulated 5V supply will blow a device designed for a regulated supply very quickly because it can put out over 7volts no load.
Ripple and noise can play havoc with electronic devices also.

Whats the model number of the Rshack supply?

If the ratings for the supply and the device are accurate(they aren't but might be close enough) then there isn't a huge problem with your replacement supply from a current standpoint if it is the same type and the ripple and noise are in the range the device will tolerate.

I would take that back to rat shack and order the proper one. .3 may not seem like a lot but it is a good percentage or 2.3
Plus adapters need to be dead on. They are rated to deliver and maintain a specified voltage and load. Any deviance can produce transient voltage and seriously degrade the life of your epson.

Have you looked on ebay for a new one. that is what I do.

If it's a stable, clean voltage output and you're only using it to recharge the batteries, 300 mA isn't too big a deal. If you want to run the device while it's plugged in, it's better to err on the side of caution and get a power supply able to exceed that rating. One other possible source - check out USB power supplies. They're often in the 2+ Amp range, and are clean power. Concentrate on the 7-port ones.

Ahhh. Awesome advice. Thank you everyone. :)

I do think I will return what I have and get an Epson Adapter, I have only found one link online that sells it, and it shows as Special Order. I will also call Epson in the morning, to confirm they have no supplies. I will be going on a trip in two weeks, but I want to take the best possible. Specially since I will be on 220V for a couple of weeks, I do not want to complicate things and end up losing data afterall, just to save $50.

If anyone finds a place or link that sells these, please do let me know. (Part number A351H).

Thanks again.

Sorry I forgot to answer this one. I really appreciate any help, as the more I look up on the net, the more dissapointing it gets.

The Radioshack is a 273-1696 (CLICK HERE FOR LINK (external link))

Thanks again.

Thanks. This is actually better than the only quote I got so far, which was right around $90 . Great link, I appreciate it.

Why do you need another charger anyway? Why not just get one of the individual battery chargers? When I had my P-3000 I had three additional batteries for it and charged all those with a cheap charger from ebay. That way I was never tied to a wall when I wanted to use my photo viewer.

It's the same adaptor and battery as for the Sony PSP.

Whoa whoa whoa! Not even close! Youre not thinking the PSP and the P-3000 use the same battery right? They definitely do not I have owned both and can 100% confirm. The battery for the P-3000 is the EU-97 and the battery for the psp is a different one.

Excuse me, not the battery but the adaptor (plug in) is the same.
