Hello,

Is there a way I can do the same action (i.e., resizing, in this case) to multiple photos, while using photoshop, without having to go through and resize each picture individually?

Thanks, Emily

File -> automate -> batch (edit: in CS2/3, anyway)

Thanks for your fast reply! I've gone to "batch" and I'm not sure how to change the size, though. It only gives me a few different options... I don't see anything that relates to a size change. Any suggestions?

Thanks again! :)

Make an action that goes "File->Automate->Fit Image", dial in the max horizontal/vertical size you want, then stop recording the action. Set it to batch using that action and you're done.

If you want to resize a bunch of pics to be 800 on the long side just put 800 in both boxes - it'll maintain the aspect ratio, just making the longest side 800.

Or launch the Image Processor from Bridge. I forgot what menu it's under, but it's the same one that has the other Photoshop items.

Image processor +1. It is in photoshop...file/scripts/image processor. You can convert and resize and apply an action.

Same way. I'm not that great with PS but I generally start recording(action tool window) , create the border , save the file and then stop recording and then File>Automate>Batch and select the action name.

Just make sure you use percentages when you build the action. That way it will work with different sized files.

Irfanview also has a GREAT batch resize as does Lightroom - way easier and imho better

Writing/recording an action can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning but there is so much that you can do with them it is well worth taking the time to learn how to work with them.

I don't put my save in the action but rather run my images and action via the image processor which will save the files in a new folder for you. Russell Brown (external link) has an improved image processor.

If you just take your time and try to understand that this is nothing more than an automated log of the way you would do each file. I have one action that I incorporate into all other actions. I do a flatten and do a mode change to 8 bit to ensure that any filter I may run on them will function properly. The change to 8 bit is just in case I have a 16 bit file.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Can this be done to change the DPI? If so, how do I do this (I have been trying to figure it out but can't).

Thanks!

I'm sure you can record an action in which you change the DPI, although you do know that the DPI is pretty meaningless unless you're going to print? (and even then, the printer driver/software usually take care of it for you)

Once you record the Action, the Image Processor can be instructed to run that action on the selected images.

If you use the image processor, you can change the size of the image. DPI only matters when you are sizing for printing. If you divide the length in pixels of a side of your image by the size in inches, you can determine DPI.

Or you could spend $10 on Mike's Framing script and have all this and more as a Photoshop script.
