I am thinking of buying a pen tablet.

I saw the Wacom Cintiq and I am intrigued. It may be worth the extra $500 to work on a "Touch Screen" of the actual photo rather than just work with a more precise mouse...

Anybody have any experience with one of these?

well, if i had the kit filled out and was working as a full time photographer rather than a aspiring semi pro, I would have one. I have one of the 6x8 wacom tablets and I could not imagine using PS with out one now..

I also tried one last year at a trade show, and wow it was really quick to learn to use.. and very intuitive (sp?)

Haven't used the Cintiq, but I have a tablet PC, and being able to draw directly on the photo really is better than trying to coordinate a pen and separate screen.

I don't really find a coordination problem. I think the trouble most people have is alternating between a pen and a mouse - you always have a learning curve when going back and forth.

Since wacom released the cheap but really workable widescreen format bamboo tablets, I've not used a mouse at all, except for the occasional game.

it's now completely natural and precise for me to 'mouse around' by pen alone. I did consider the cintiq series, but gave up on the idea since I don't think the screens in them are going to offer accurate enough colour reproduction to make it worthwhile looking down at it. I've spent $ on a nice screen which doesn't change colour on me when I'm a few degrees off-axis, and just don't think that's where the cost goes in a pen tablet.
