The IQ on my 20D is no longer as clear as it used to be in the past. I noticed when shooting in low light conditions @ ISO 200-400 the IQ results have noise grain. In the past this would never happened when shooting @ ISO 200-400. Any particular reason why this is happening. I've had my 20D since early 2005. Is it time to upgrade to the 50D?:)

You're seeing things, so you can justify upgrading, its alright, I think you should get a mark III.

Is it possible that in the last 3+ years your eyes are just better trained to see this noise?

Perhaps a trip to Canon for servicing, or an upgrade would be in order.

Its probably just because you are seeing so many low noise images posted around by users with newer cameras. Your camera hasn't suddenly become rubbish, but if you are still sure send it in for a service. You never know.

I just got off the phone with the camera dealer here about my 20D, thought the problem was simply a new shutter( to the tune of 275.00), but now it seems that it has "intermitent" sounds and grinds, so they want to send it to Canon.that means another 2 months with no 20D, and a higher bill up to 340.00......
I am having the body sent home:( No more investing any money into the poor thing..

I also got my 20D in early 2005 and haven't noticed an increase in noise. In fact, it seems it still works as good as the day I bought it. I have heard some people say their cameras have increasing noise as they get older, but it has not been my experience. Are you underexposing the pics perhaps?

Perhaps you are underexposing your images, which are then autocorrecting in the RAW converter?

Flo,
I think you're right! My 20D image quality in low light condition @ ISO 200-400 is harsh especially when shooting with a 2.8 or lower. The image quality is washed and lacks color and details. In the past, the 20D performed well in low light conditions with my 2.8 lens. I've also seen cases with other digital cameras losing IQ after about 3 years of use. I think it's probably best to divorce the 20D and marry a 50D. I don't see the value in spending $200 to repair the 20D. Thoughts from others?

Unless you think 200 dollars is a good investment for a back up camera perhaps?

I don't see why the lens aperture has anything to do with noise in image. Maybe posting an example would help. Most people here are familiar with how an ISO 200-400 sample should be looking.
