I am rendering a video I made using it and will post it up when it's done.

What I want to do is use one camera for video and the other for shots, essentially taping a photoshoot. I know the powershot isn't really good for video and if this actually works after some tweaking I'll invest in a better video camera.

I am open to any suggestions or ideas from people who have attempted something like this before.

Excellent idea to document a shoot.. especially useful in teaching situations.

I just need to get a real video camera and figure out a way to make them sync up a little better. As it is now the video is off to the left and a little wider angle than the pictures. I zoomed in a little on the video and it helped but they're still not close to being centered.

I'll post up the video in 30 min or so, my pc is slow at rendering them.

I would like it to be wider angle so it would show the setup and some items out of frame from the still shots. Like lights, reflectors, as well as distractions that are being excluded to give insight to how the still is composed and created.

that would be a good idea. i don't really do any studio stuff, just car shows outdoors so that won't be anything I attempt but it would definitely be cool to see someone else (a professional) doing it.

That'd probably annoy the hell out of me as I'm always tilting my camera from one orientation to another. You need to make a swivel bracket for it like the stroboframe for the flash =)

Pretty cool idea. Good luck with pursuing this further. Just in time, for the people that can't afford cameras that have HD video built in. ;)

I've seen something like this before, and the most important thing seems to be having a wireless microphone, otherwise you'll be getting the shutter noise in the video all the time.

If you're just getting a "behind the scenes" thing, it's awesome. If you were doing a joint "photo/video" thing, look into an off-camera microphone.

i actually took out all of the sound and added in a fake shutter sound for effect, the mic to that camera is junk and all you hear is me moving around and wind blowing

Interesting idea. If you simply want to document a photo shoot, how about the video camera on a seperate tripod set back a ways, to catch not only the shoot but your own movements as well. If you are moving around a wide or diverse area though, that wouldn't work.

that would work in a close setting, but car shows are spread out over fields or parking lots and that's the main thing I shoot.
I think once i get more practice in and a decent video camera you'll really see what i'm trying to accomplish ( car show videos & feature vehicle videos)

A decent video camera + a dslr is going to be... pretty heavy.
