I think this is an excellent idea. Having a wide field of view would be preferable for me as well. I would love to see this idea executed with a studio photo shoot. It would give some insight as to what exactly the photographer is thinking as he/she is looking through the lens.

i am rendering another video i made...it's just in my back yard so it's nothing exciting but I was mainly working on the sync between cameras and transitions in the video. i will post it up when it's uploaded

i think this one is definitely a lot better and if i can just get a way to steady the video it will work out well

here's the 2nd test video. keep in mind it's not about the boring subject matter but me getting the video and image to sync right and working on my video editing and transition skills. I think this one is a lot better and shows what I have in mind for when I do it on vehicles at car shows. I just need to get a little steadier with the video and I'll be set.

I got a different camera and a wider lens setup. I know it's not expensive equipment but I'm not going for production quality either. Here's a couple of pics of the setup with the $14 steadycam (external link) I made:

hopefully i'll get a chance to use it. there is a small car show up here saturday that i may go to. I bet i get some weird looks carrying this thing around though...

on a side note, i can't believe how well these pics of the setup came out. i used an olympus digital camera that my wife got for her college graduation in 2003 and man that thing is sharp even if it is slow and has a 1.5" screen!

That 'steady-cam' job looks great -one question though. How well can you hold and shot the SLR with all that attached?

It reminds me of the Camera Phone on Flight of the Conchords...

Lol, they basically super glued a 35mm camera to a cell phone because they were upset they didn't have a camera phone.
