Hi everyone, I've read a bit on how to use levels in Photoshop, but I cannot afford and will not steal Photoshop.

So right now I'm stuck with DPP. I can't figure out how to work levels in it and get levels to work properly. I know DPP has automatic adjustments, but I don't want to use them, that doesn't help me learn anything.

Can someone tell me how to use them properly in DPP, or does anyone know a site for this? There's plenty of stuff on PP but barely anything on DPP, and GIMP can't handle RAW files.

Thanks.

It is a shame when they updated DPP they updated the tutorials, that 2.x version had some great tutorials on adjusting Luminance curves on the RGB tab. If it is on RGB, right-click and change to Luminance.

Think of the vertical doted lines as Shadows, Midtones, and Highs. Depends on where your histogram falls though.

You can rarely put one point on the line, I usually put at least three, if you put one for shadow and attempt to boost it will the whole line, not bad if you want to do that too. If you only add two points, it will create an "S" using the non moving point as a fulcrum. So you have to add a third so the line wont bend, on the highs for example.

The good thing is you can play around till your hearts content, and always revert back to shot settings DPP is non-destructive to both JPG and RAW so you can't hurt anything.

Have you looked at PS Elements? It is less than $100 and does a lot more than DPP.

I guess I'll have to take a look at that. I can't stand my word flow...I have to switch programs and all that BS. Thanks for the idea.
