I cloned out the No.5 sign but not sure whether it actually added something to the shot, better with or better with out. I thought about taking out the peg with the wire on at the bottom left as well but think it would leave that space looking a little empty.

Probably looks that way but that's the effect I was after, it wasn't a great shot so was trying to get something from it by using the Topaz filter on it; I quite like the effect it gives.

So, could we have a quick and dirty on how you cloned out something with such a complex background? For those of us who are severely PS challenged:):)

Without for my vote, and I do agree that you cloned it out very well.

Nothing difficult about it Bob, just very time consuming. It's just a matter of finding other parts of the shot that you can use to fill-in or replace the parts you don't want, you may have to manipulate the parts you choose so they fit where you want them and you can try different methods of blending them in. For example, the front of the first carriage is simply the back half stretched and feathered in, the same with the tracks where the pole crosses them; simply cut and paste another section of track and resize to fit over the pole. There's a little healing brush;quite a bit of cloning; some painting and a lot of artists licence also ;)

The crazy horizon is more disturbing than the sign...looks like the whole thing could stand to be rotated a couple of degrees counter-clockwise. Nice PS work on the sign removal.

Thanks for the info, Mick. It's "nice" to know it's a laborious process and it's not just me thinking it or making it more difficult than need be.

You could have saved yourself a lot of bother by taking the shot a little sooner. ;)

I actually e-mailed the NYMR about moving that speed restriction sign, predictably I didn't get a reply.
