Congrats on the Tamrac purchase! I own the Expedition 5 and 8. To me, they are the best bags out there. One thing I really like is that it has so many pockets and it can be expandable with the M.A.S. accessories.

That's one of the reason I've purchased this bag, I'm going to get the water bottle holder before I go on the trip.

lol cool.

I'll be in college around summer of 2009 so I'm getting ready for it now although I know we have 6 months of winter coming "hopefully it's light winter like the winter of 1984"

By the way is your bag heavy when you have all your gear in it? Or am I just majorly out of shape and I should wear my bag lots in the winter time to get the hang of hiking and so on?

Tamrac backpacks are great! I have the Expedition 5 which is a little bigger than what you have and can hold a little bit more and I just love it. I'm thinking of getting the Expedition 6 so that I can carry an extra body without needing to remove one or two items from the bag but I'm not sure if it'll be big enough (and I don't want to go up to the Expedition 7 because of the large, non-removable waist band it has).

Nothing is non-removable. I have the Expedition 7 which is great. I hated the waist band so I just cut it off. I'll try and post a pic later today, but it's really hard to even see that it was ever there. The 7 is the largest one that can be taken on an airplane so that's why I didn't get the 8. I can't fit everything I own in it, but I can take whatever I need on a given day.

Actually I find the waist band very good and supporitive for hikes "although" I've only been on a small hike with it so far.

I just found that it got in the way too much. It's too bad that they didn't make it removeable, but oh well. Here's what mine looks like. You can hardly notice where it was attached.

Oh and just for the record, THIS is heavy. 2 bodies, 3 lenses, 2 flashes, 2 black box battery packs for the flashes, Skyports, light meter, 2 Ultrapods and an assortment of batteries, cables, CF cards, ball bungies, filters etc. 26 lbs.

So, where was the waist band attached? That little stub that looks to be about an inch or so wide? I must say, you really did do a good job removing the band. :)

You got it. I just cut it off as close to the pack as I could get it and then used a lighter to melt the ends so they wouldn't fray. Piece of cake.
