A question for owners of Canon Speedlites - it probably doesn't matter which model. Are there any language specific settings on the flash menus? From what I can see it seems that it's more or less icon driven, but I'm not sure.

The reason I'm asking is because I've just bought a 430EX II in Japan - it's on it's way now - and while I knew that I couldn't get an English manual for it yet, it never occurred to me that the the LCD display might also be a problem. From what I can tell, unlike their cameras, there's no way to choose a display language - so I'm wondering how important that might be. Obviously I'm hoping that it's all icons, and therefore they don't need to have different display setups for different languages.

There are very few words on a speedlite, I suspect they'll be in English anyway. Even if it's Japanese I bet you could operate it fine - the only switch you really need is the power switch.

The Japanese ones are the only ones which are in another language. Good luck...

 I'm kidding of course, they're all in English, no matter where you get them from.

Thanks guys...... that's reassuring. :)

I've been fooled like that before here though. We have a Panasonic video camera that I can only use about 20-30% of the capability of. My wife is Japanese, but she is so a-technical, and averse to actually reading a manual, that I really can't count on her for that sort of thing.

Luckily I married her for completely different reasons!! :D
