Hi All

I've looking for positive comments on the 50D. So far there are few.

I have read the specs and am fairly impressed and I am thinking of pressing the button. 40D - move over!

Anyway - it has been available now for nearly a week and not much enthusiasm seems to be shown.

So if there are any 50D users out there please post your comments and best pics if possible.

Very few positive things? I have seen tons of great things said about it. Stay away from forums where its easy for people to type whatever the hell it is they want, wether its true or not.

It has not been out for a week now. Only a very few places have gotten a retail one. Its official release date for stores is October 6th.

It's available in Singapore since last friday.
Got a set and shooting with it over the weekend.
Have briefly handled a 40D before i moved on to 5D and a simple comparison will be: buy it if you have no DSLR or you have an older generation xxD (other than 40D).

Overall the AF is pretty much the same as 40D.
Lovely thing is the noise control is better (to my naked eyes, btw i do not pixel peep) and the micro-af.
I like the quick menu made available in this 50D though i can see most of the setting on the viewfinder. Customizing more buttons as shortcuts is lovely to change settings "on the fly" rather than going deep into the menu and figure out where is that function at which page...

This is based on my personal opinion on the short ownership.

Hi zooxanthellae (dunno your first name or where you are in Kent)- Yes, you are correct. I am after comment from people who have actually got their hands on a 50D and taken pics with it. The specs look tempting. I am wondering whether I need one or not as I have a 40D. The 5DMk2 seems to have plenty good said about it - albeit it isn't even available yet.
Don't worry about the comment from the US poster - I was tempted to reply - probably in the good natured spirit I think it was intended. Let's face it - I wonder how other countries really see us - I hate to think!

Perhaps i was being a little over sensitive and missed the humour in that response lol.

The 5d mkII does look good, out of my price range though unfortunately plus not sure id miss the crop factor when using my 70-200 so id have to think about getting myself a 100-400L so more expense.

I live near Rochester by the way,Tony

The menu system is better than the 40D, quite simple and very clear.

The LCD is fantastic - took some shots in the bush today and it was great using the LCD to check on them.

Played around with Live view - very easy single button operation.

Shutter has a better sound than my old 40D.

It seems to focus quite fast, although haven't really tested it at the limits yet.

Low light is ok, I wouldn't say it was fantastic, more like usable.

So far, so good.

Ok Tony - zooxanthellae - I'm Located 5 miles south of Gravesend.

You are right about the crop factor and I use both 100-400L IS and the 70-200 2.8L IS.
I would cetainly miss the crop factor but I do love that movie mode. Wish I could justify buying both.

Ok Whitlam - Thanks - so we'll some results or comments from you shortly - Yes?

Steve (blackjacknz) Thanks - It seems the 50D night shots have more noise - perhaps it was due to settings etc:
