Just wanted to say thanks for the discussion forums, I think they're a great idea.

It will be nice to not have to search out all the macro stuff in the lighting/lens/talk about sections.

Well done!
Kurt

I think the new sub-forum for lens sample archives is awesome. Great job!

Cheers

Thanks! It's all aimed to make this a better place for all and cater for the future. The new Talk forums will be a nice source of info in few years! :)

It'll take some time to thread title in Lens Sample Photo Archive (In2Photos is working hard there), each lens will have own thread by official lens name for easy search. when that work is done, you can sort them by name with https://photography-on-the.net …e=-1&order=asc&sort=title (clicking thread link on top bar there)

I'm sure that's true.

For now, it occurs to me that it would be very helpful to have some guidance as to which forum a post should go into, to save the moderators from having to move things around all the time.

Just as an example, there are now three bird-related forums. So it's Birds (forum 91) if there is a picture of your own? Discuss Bird Photography (forum 147) if you're commenting on somebody else's bird photo but not one posted in 91, which presumably should be discussed in 91? Bird Talk (Forum 122) if there's no photo but just a discussion about where to/how to? The same which-of-three-places conundrum exists with respect to all of the other focus areas as well.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was one of my BIGGEST of all time pet peeves about this place, that we couldn't discuss anything about say weddings in the wedding forum! and it all had to get crammed into one forum.....

That was the greatest move you guys have done yet, thnaks!

//edit after taking a closer look at it, everything seems good (especially the subforum for the lens samples) but the only thing to me is that there is WAYYY to many subforums for "Talk about photography". I don't think people will even check all those sections on a regular basis, making some questions go unanswered. Like I said I'm still very down for the split but I think "Talk about Photography" could be split into only a few sections

There are only two bird forums, #91 and #122. Forum #147 forwards to the Discussion one (#122). In other words, 147 and 122 are the same forum.

There is only one Bird Talk forum: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=122

The Photo Sharing area sub-forums are LINKS to above forum.

I am prepared to remove those links if they are not needed and confuse people. We could have a STICKY on top of each share forum, but by experience I know no one reads stickies :)

ya thats exactly what I was saying. I was confused too and thought there was double subforums going on.

I would take out all those excess links under "Talk about photography" and just leave them inside the "sharing" forums.

Makes the talk about photography look too crowded/confusing

I have just seen the new forum set-up which looks really good. I haven't tried it out yet, so I'm off out there in a minute to see if it works.

I particulary like the idea of separating pets from wildlife and having a separate HDR section - both of which have been routintely dismissed on here when people have suggested them in the past!

The only bit that I don't think fits in and is straying from the traditional POTN format is the video section.

Mike

I would, too. Vbulletin templates might not allow that (hate that code). I'll check it out.

ubb ftw! :D

thats odd, the templates are forcing you to have the subforums all linked in a massive pile under something else? Like everything is perfect, just if we could get rid of the mess under talk about photog

The duplication is confusing, yes. My getnew&exclude bookmark is waaaaaaay too long...

Ok, I deducted the conditional code how to do it. Soon the link-subforums will disappear from share forums in front page, and show only when you go into the share forum.
