Alright folks, the forum has had its changes and the Archive's have their own home now. Pekka would like me to name the lenses using a similar convention which I am working on. He would also like any nicknames to be in the title as well. Now I know some of the nicknames but certainly not all. I found a few threads about it, but none are DEFINITIVE! I want nicknames that are set in stone, like the 24-70 L known as the Brick and the Sigma 10-20 known as Wigma. Not your own pet nicknames, I mean world known nicknames.

There is a list of Canon lenses here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=155904

And Sigma lenses here: https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=6288306&postcount=24

I don't know of any lists for the other third party lenses (other than the Archive Sticky). If someone wants to help out with those lists that would be great.

So share those nicknames here so that I can add them to the titles in the archives.

Thanks!

The list of lenses and nicknames "agreed upon".

I've read the 70-200 2.8 IS and Non, referred to as The White Whale.

Also, LR always calls the Sigma 30mm 1.4 as the Sigmagic

Can anyone else confirm these? I've never heard of them called this. No offense!

the 50 1.8 will be known as the Thrifty Fifty and the 1.4 as the Nifty. I know this is hit or miss but it makes sense.

Sigma 4.5mm circular fisheye = Fishma
(This may not be world known, but it's hardly a world-known lens is it? The term was coined here when it
was first announced.)

Sigma 300-800 = Sigmonster

Sigma 200-500 = Sigzilla

Drainpipe is 80-200, but what is the Beer Can? Do you mean the 85 1.2 aka The Keg?

Shifty fifty? (50 1.2, for it's focus shift.)

Or just call the group of L primes the holy trinity? (35L, 85L, 135L)
