Can we share photos in the talk areas?
Can I post a photo of my favorite, in answer to the OP's question?
Or is that kind of out of bounds?

For a while it was the Ruby-Crested Kinglet; before that it was Hummers. They're still favorites for me. Right now I'm really enjoying shooting the Warblers and Bluebirds that have been coming around.

I'm a fan of the little woodland birds. Warblers, Flycatchers, and this summer I fell in love with the little Ovenbird. But I also admire the Piping Plovers. The chicks amaze me that they stand up and start searching for their own food only a few minutes after they hatch.

The same questions are crossing my mind. I have been absent from POTN since my computer crashed about a week ago (actually, it is more like acting "funny" with various combinations of mouse/keyboard/monitor alternating between working and not working -- mostly not working) and it appears that while I was "out of the loop" things have turned upside down here. I thought that my borrowed computer was acting up when I saw that a large number of new forums seem to have suddenly sprouted up on POTN like mushrooms after a rain.

I have been watching the new Bird Talk forum because it appears the right place to ask a question that I have, but so far, it looks a bit like a ghost town. And, then with all of these categories, I am afraid that it might get moved to who knows where. And, it could get complicated ... what if I had a question that concerned specific issues related to post processing, printing, and color management of a bird image (and also requesting an ID) and included a bird photo as an example related to the question. Also, I might want to know what lens other recommend. ;)

I can't really say I have a favorite type of bird, but I do love my chickadees. Maybe it's because they've nested in my yard several times now, and I feel like I know them so well. They are always around no matter what the weather and love the mealworms that I put out for them!

Here's a video from this past summer's nest (external link).

Yeah, it helps if I actually type the link right! ;) It's fixed now. This video has sound for the last several minutes, BTW. I finally figured out how to get rid of the RF interference. The chicks got really talkative toward fledging time!

The ones I was able to feed today at the park were so excited to see me this morning that they were literally shrieking with excitement, loud enough to hurt my ears. Just happy as little clams. :)

Where does one get meal worms and are they live, dried, frozen? I've always thought I'd like to try them. W'll, not ME, I'd give them to the birds to try. :)

I get them at a pet shop here in town. One that sells lizards. Not all places have them. They are usually in a refrigerator on the floor, and come live, in styrofoam cups of usually 500 or 1000. A 1000 cup is like the size of a medium coffee cup with a lid. They are in ground wheat meal or some kind of stuff they can eat. They live quite awhile in the refrigerator and will even grow and shed old skins.

I'd call around to the pet stores and ask the price. I have seen some are way expensive for some reason.

This has to be one of the best shots I have ever seen. So crisp and sharp as a tack. Well done. Had to say it again!!!

I have found that the birds are only interested in live mealworms. Any dried mealworms I've put out have been completely ignored. Like Mitch said, you can get them at some pet shops, as people feed them to their reptiles. Also a wild bird store, or you can order them online from a bunch of different places. In fact during the big mealworm shortage this past summer, the bird stores were having a hard time getting them because all of the pet shops had priority on supply. The birds I've seen that eat them are chickadees, bluebirds, blue jays, and orioles. I definitely had a lot more orioles in my yard this year because of that. In this screen capture from my feeder cam, you can see an oriole sitting on the blue mealworm dish.
