Now, THIS is a great bird shot (in my never to be humble opinion)

Good leading lines, great detail, good color, background is not distracting, chicks are sharp, there is an element of humor in it, and the cropping is near perfect - just maybe a little tight on the top - I suspect there is no image above - cropped in camera, and easily forgiven, or overlooked.

Strong image - wish it were mine!

Can we share photos in the talk areas?
Can I post a photo of my favorite, in answer to the OP's question?
Or is that kind of out of bounds?

Yes, you can post images in support of a topic or relating to a question such as this one. However images for sharing only belong in the appropriate photo sharing section, in this case "Birds".

This is an old post I found on a search for mealworms so sorry for reviving it but to answer the original question... Pileated woodpeckers! Those guys just fascinate me.

My favorite birds are the warblers, if I had to pick one I would go with the cerulean warbler.

Great first post by the way!

I have 3 favorites:
Snail Kites - Striking endangered raptors with many fascinating behaviors.
Sandhill Cranes - Like members of the family. They are very smart and are great parents.
Common Loons - I grew up in Minnesota where the Loon is the state bird and I love their call.

I can't pick just one favorite, but the birds I enjoy watching the most are raptors, waders, woodpeckers, and of course, hummingbirds.

It's too hard to pick an absolute favorite but my top five would be;

Cactus Wren
Eastern Bluebird
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
Golden-fronted Woodpecker
Cooper's Hawk
