it was so cheap i had to just try it... bought it off ebay.

seems to work fine... not sure about charge but we'll see. its 2200mah (whilst oem batt is 2300)... the fit is not great but it does have a thin rubbery weather sealing edges just like the canon genuine batt. i dont think i'll expose the body to rain with this battery though.

i bought this batt "just in case"... but honestly i've never ever ran out of juice with the original canon battery so this cheap batt was just extra insurance.

I never understood why Canon's batteries were so damned expensive to begin with...

Some cameras, some lenses, plenty of gaffer's tape and beer.

all companies make the extra petty cash for their CxO's from accessories;)

at anyrate, i hate to look like a cheapskate for owning a 4000$ camera and skimping out on a battery.... but i guess for "experimental" sake, i boght one ... if i really needed a second batt, i wouldve just bought a canon brand. heh heh.

I wouldn't say cheapskate, I would say sensible and thrifty. There is no reason at all laptop batteries, power tool batteries, and camera batteries should be so expensive, you are almost always paying for brand-name. Just like more than half the pretzels in the snack aisle at the store, most are all made by the same manufacturer, just a different label. $120 for this battery is just plain stupid, and I have taken many rechargeable packs apart, from power tools to laptop batteries. In almost all cases, you can buy the individual AA, 4/3A, etc cells and resolder them together, put the case back together, and you would have a refurbished replacement at 1/3 to 1/5 the cost.

I notice the 100mah difference in the phottix brand, please report back what you find performance wise and functionality. I like Phottix brand items, I have had several and have sold several.

I have two OEMs and had (until one broke) two generics for my Mark II. I have no problems with any of the batteries. Like you, however, I will not trust the generics' seals to the weather. That's why I also have OEMs.

For my 10D I have one OEM on its last leg and three generics. When the dying OEM goes completely, a generic will replace it. Since the batteries go inside the camera completely and the camera isn't sealed anyway, I see no need for OEMs.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Good point and great policy. Keep the OEM handy for times of inclement weather, and the aftermarket for most other situations, I like that.
