leave the tele home, you won't use it enough to justify carrying around a ton of weight.

Yeah, I sorta agree (from my thoughts).
I have been on two other cruises, both to Alaska, and those would have been nice to have a telephoto for (I wasn't interested in photography back then), but I just can't think of any moment, of where\when I would use the telephoto. I mean, on the ship, that would all be wide and fast, at the ports, I would definetaly want wide, and 55mm is a good "normal" focal length, so the 17-55 would really be almost my only lens I would use, with a flash on. I would bring the 50 1.4 just for the shows and stuff, doubt I could get good pics, but with 1.4, I'd have a fairly good chance.

Tumeg, we have been too Alaska twice with Princess. Once when we got married and just this May. I used my 75-300 and my 17-40L. However we didn't have to fly, just a ferry over to Vancouver!

The Wife also got me this just for Cruising. It will be my Carry-on.
Perfect for the Xti and the 18-200 Sigy, spare CF cards and battery. Leaving the grip at home, it is Too much to lug around!
