Someone is willing to buy my 30D with the 18-55mm kit lens and a 75-300 EF for $800 this week end. So this will leave me with no camera  till I go and buy an other one

Now I would really like to get the 5D mark ii, but this would take a little more time to gather the money. or I could get the 50D next week, if it was out.

the question is, how long would I have to wait till I can get ether one of them?
Does any one know when they are coming out?

It seems like the 50D is out in stores overseas, so I imagine we'll start seeing them here within the next couple weeks. The 5D MKII isn't supposed to start shipping until November, so that's still a moving target. :)

50D's arrived here today, 18-200's likely tomorrow. Word on 5D2 is Nov. I know it's NZ but if it helps, there you go.

Cheers, Dave.

october 6th is the "official" release date of 50D in usa, but some places will receive them before others and will get them before then for stock/inventory, they will start selling on the 6th

this is going to be really hard to deal with.

the 50D comes out in a little more then a week, and the 5D2 in a little more then a month.

so if I sell my 30D this week, I won't have a camera, and how am I gonna stop myself from buying the 50D for a whole month so I can just get the 5D mark II instead.

This is not gonna be an easy task...

buy the 50D next week, use it for a month. At that point decide if it's enough for you while you continue to save towards a 5Dii. If it is keep it and be happy. If it isn't, sell it used. You will lose ~$100 on the deal, but that's a cheap 1 month camera rental, and you'll know first hand if the 50D is right for you or not.

Kind of hard to say what to do, especially since nobody knows what you like to shoot. Some snippets I have seen are that demand for the 5DII is very good and the camera will be in tight supply through year end.

My advice is if you don't know what you want to do, don't sell your old gear yet. The answer will come to you eventually.

As many people here point out, if you buy from Sam's Club they have an unconditional satisfaction guaranteed return policy, so you could buy it from them, use it for a month, and if you still want the 5D MK II, return it for a full refund.

no it's not. it's just what circuity city says on their pre-order page and everyone took it as "official canon date".

put another way, do you want 1.6 stops thinner DOF, more weather sealing, larger viewfinder, less noise, ISO 50 and 25,600, better IQ from lenses (as a result of 2.4mp/sq cm instead of 4.5mp/sq cm), and better AI servo AF performance from having 6 assist points? and the ability to shoot 1080p HD movies with glass you currently own? Then get the 5Dmk2. :)

plus your 24-70 will become wider :). not that you need it, since you have a 10-20. 5Dmk2 has the same pixel density as your 30D...with 15MP (nearly twice the pixel density) i think the 50D is putting a bit too much strain on the lens.

OP has a legitimate question regarding availability and price, but this comment is ludicrous.

I saw another thread suggesting that there is no point in buying a 1Ds Mark3 now that the 5D Mark 2 is release. And, I saw a thread (with samples!) showing 50D and 40D IQ are really, really similar.

Recalling some simple math:

If 50D = 5D2, and 5D2 = 1Ds3, and 50D = 40D, then 40D = 1Dsmark3.

So now nobody needs to spend $7000 on a 1Dsmk3 anymore. They can spend $900 and get a 40D instead.;)
