I was hoping to find a remote to activate the shutter on this camera, it can be wired or wireless. I may be out of luck though.
Does anyone here know for sure?

The feature you were looking for is called remote shooting (camera controlled by tether using the USB cable to a PC). Most of the older versions of the Canon Powershots had it, as does the G9. You would have to search the back of each User Manual under the Specifications to see whether the camera supports that feature. However, there is a third party software company that expands on this feature for those cameras that are capable. Their website lists the cameras their software will work with, so this provides an instant answer to which models have remote shooting capabilities. Here's their web page with the cameras listed;

none of the Canon Powershots have that kind of a remote control.

Dennis actually some of the Canon Powershots can have that kind of a remote control. You have to install the "CHDK" program and use a wireless RC controller or a USB cable with battery.
