Nice shots. The ISO 1600 looks pretty good on my monitor. I just got the 135mm and can not wait to shot some gymnastics with it.
These were quite noisy, but after some post-processing and resizing they look very clean. Great choice on the 135L! I read you shot a lot of gymnastics with a Xti and 70-200 2.8L, which definately isn't a bad combo. However for indoor sports you'll need all the light you can get. So you can expect your results to be quite a bit better with the 40D and 135L; faster AF, better iso1600 AND f/2!
It's just an amazing lens, unbeatable!
oh ps, don't be afraid to use it wide-open, at f/2 it's as sharp as the 70-200L at f/3.5-4.

Looks like #1 and #2 are the same time, but different angles? (remote set up?)
Haha, I'd wish I had a second camera for remote shots, but no..these were taken at different points during the match. The players are quite consistant in their service motions up until the very last moment, the point of contact, which decides the effect on the ball. Therefore it's quite easy to try out some different angles, as you'll get multiple chances (only in some cases though..)
