man.. this sounds like a really tough situation. because you can take a farmer off the farm, but you cant take the farm out of the farmer.

i dont know. i hope someone can give you some great ideas. because im lost at this one.

If I were the one shooting..I'd think it'd be pretty cool to take him to a very urban city and have him in his farmer attire and same with his fiance..or maybe have him in his farmer attire and her in maybe something buisness to show the contrast between both the farmer and the city girl. Just my thought..does seem like a fun shoot though.

Find some hay bales in the city???

I don't know, it's tough to find an old tractor in a upbeat city.

If he doesn't wear the outfit, I'm not sure how else you can do it. I would think he has to wear some farm attire. I think it would look really cute in a city because you can get frames with people walking by looking at them.

Are there are farm plots within the city (city gardens)? Where you could shoot them in the garden with the city buildings in the background? Otherwise you may be reduced to using props like a hoe or having them settle for him wearing a John Deere-type jacket that just hints at what he does for a living.

What about hints that he's a farmer rather than being blatant about it? For instance, maybe he could incorporate his footwear....and a favorite shirt and a pair of jeans...it doesn't have to be hokey. Good luck!

Maybe try to pose a shot that takes a spin on the "American Gothic" painting?

He can be dressed in jeans and a plaid/country style shirt and she can be dressed more sophisticated/"city like"? I don't know the city you are shooting in, so I can't suggest a background, but if it is like NY and has a meat packing district, shoot there to elude to his farm lifestyle?

Good luck!

Wow, this is a toughy.....
I would take the subtle route....maybe get a wheat/ grain stick that the farmers so "typically" have hanging out of their mouth and incorporate that into some shots. You can buy little bales of hay at Michael's for cheap and have them in the city sitting on one of those. Other than that, I'm at a loss. Sorry and good luck

I would reverse roles, maybe dress him city and her country, she doing country things as he watches on thinking "Not so easy". Then reverse to city life roles. Maybe at a park, as he reads poetry to her. Man this sounds like a cool couple and ripe for contrast. If nothing else, go for the love dude. Shoot the love, and you won't go wrong.

Borrow one of his cows and bring it downtown and just have it meandering in the background of some shots. Or take him to the most "business"/suit area of the "big city" and have him in typical farm working clothes walking hand in hand with her in her flash amongst the other suits and him looking right into the camera over his shoulder, but all the suits just walking like they don't notice anything going on. Or have two pictures lined up with him on the farm with a tractor in the background, her in the city and they're holding hands... but then combine the picture right down the middle meeting at the hands and you just have to PS the heck out of that to make it work. Or... lots of crazy ideas.

So many people are apologizing for your situation, but I think it sounds like a really great and unique creative opportunity! In fact, I'm pretty jealous! I like Darvon's ideas - I say accentuate the fact that he's a country boy in his fiancees world - nothing like a little oil and water, black and white, ying and yang for contrast !!! I would, however, say a big NEGATIVE to the cow in the city idea... that'd be sure to get the attention of the local PD! have fun!

Pretty easy. Talk with them, but you could simply make a gesture towards his background. I have an friend in his early 20's and he wears a John Deere ballcap most everywhere. I wouldn't put him in full regalia but make a small concession to his background. Find a mural of the country in the city and put them in front of it. Or something like that.

Sounds like fun! Post 'em when you're done...

supermarket dairy or meat aisles... you would have to ask permission to shoot in there though

local zoos usually have a farm animal section in the petting zoo?

or how about have him bring his grungiest farm clothes & muck-smeared gumboots, and arrange them conspicuously in the background or to one side, but have him very spruced up in urban wear with her all dressed up hanging off him - and maybe have him looking at his farm clothes?
