So, do you need them restored by a POTN member so that you have them on hand soon?

If so, any of us would need the full-size scan result available.

I would like to have a go myself, but would need some pointers (my PS skills are very limited)

Those are the full size scans, I may be able to scan them larger, but the photos themselves are only 2" x 1" (approx)

I scanned them at 300dpi and in Black & White, and they are as faded as the scans above

Ah, I see -- Small originals.

The book I have is Photoshop Restoration and Retouching, by Katrin Eismann.

My first restorations took several days.

This is THE BOOK to get on photo restoration. Some very simple techniques that give amazing results, and lots of examples. Highly recommended.

Sonic, if you haven't already done so, I recommend you also post here (external link). Some really wise and helpful people there.

Whats the difference between this book and Photoshop CS3 Restoration and Retouching Bible by Mark Fitzgerald ?
