Congrats mate, as mentioned before it pays to fight these cases if you feel wrong done by, unless you don't have the time. Lucky you didn't take them up on the reduced priced repair offer like someone suggested :).

Hope you get it back soon.

congrats on getting the camera fixed for free :) it just proves that canon really does try and pull the fast one on customers.

if they can do it for free now, why couldn't they do that from the start.

Hahaha that's a first, how do the guys at the Canon service center miss that :(.

Tell them that seeing you can't use your popup flash anymore you are now needing a new 580 EX II replacement:).

Silly lads at Canon, hope they get it fixed right this time around.

now that's good canon service for ya.

you know some small thing inside the camera you can understand. But a button on the outside? go figure. they must try and fix the cameras with blindfolds on or something.

them buttons won't fall out, they'll fall in while the body is apart and due care isn't applied. Question you could ask yourself is where is the flash button now? shutter mechanism? mirror box? best you don't take any test shots before sending it back...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Hmmm bugger! Unfortunately, its not unheard of for Canon NZ, I thought they had finally got their act together but apparently not:(

Get back onto the shop via the phone first thing in the morning, get them to organise for Canon to jack up a courier pick-up & priority re-repair.

If you don't mind me asking, which shop was it purchased from?

Regards

Mark

I like that :D I don't mind losing the button if they going to give 580ex2 for free.

Agreed! thats what struck my mind too. If something outside that quite obvious can happen, how about things inside!. thats why I quickly test to take photo just now.

I already took test photo just now. Silly me too I just notice the button missing when I try to download photo to my PC. well didn't expect things like this to happen.

this if my first experience with dslr and to service center... not a good experience so far :( (actually the first year was good until the shutter start playing up, then camera dead.. now this).

I purchased from Photowarehouse Megastore. The manager there is very nice and helpful. He actually helped me to contact Canon and get Canon to fix my Camera for free. He told me, next time I got problem with the camera. bring it straight to him.. now I want to see how his expression seeing the missing button :)

EDIT: 1 credit I should give to Canon Service Center. Although I didn't ask or see any note regarding adjusting my Camera, but I find the image at 100% is alot more sharper than before.
