Diamonds..close up & personal!

I LOVE photographing sparklie things..diamonds being my favourite! Here are a few practice shots I took in the sun today!
I'm just not sure how to get them so sharp and really focused looking when on Macro...is it because I zoomed in too much? I would
like to be able to see the hearts and arrows of the diamond!

Might be moving to Canada soon.... Looks like the US ran out of money!

REALLY..that might be a good thing! *wink* I mean you moving to Canada..it sure is beautiful here!

Maybe I could sell some of my "rocks" and lend the US some cash? LOL

I love Canada, especially Toronto. Reminds of NYC -- only clean!

Now...getting back on topic..any tips for me..how to get more crisp, clear shots of these diamonds.

What lens did you shoot it with?

18-55mm (comes with kit), do I need a macro lens?

It would help.

Also, if you did not already...

Tripod, Mirror lockup, and either a shutter release or the timer. At tight focal distances, the smallest amount of camera movement shows.

K..thanks..I only have the tripod..better get shopping!

Look good to me but you will be able to get sharper much closer shots with a 1:1 macro lens which would then show up the stone details more.

That is so bizarre, the rings in the second picture look just like mine and my wife's!
