Looking for ways to improve my photos

interesting twist on the first pic. kinda makes me confused as to whether it's 90% b&w or i'm imagining things..

Yes it a mix , it a light room preset , gives nice effects I think.

I like the first pic, except for the grey fog around the outside.

Either make the vignetting darker by fading to black, or simply crop out the excess you don't like so much.

As for the nirvana 'nevermind' shot in the pool, I think the idea is pretty much there, but the choices you've made with selective colour makes it look like an advertisement for floaties. If you put a big bold tagline underneath, with a phone number, I'd probably dial it and order a couple.

I'm all for experimentation and I applaud you for it. If I have any advice, it's to ask youself "what message does this send?" when you look at your work critically. It's not enough to just do things for cool value, it also has to communicate something.

I like the first shot a lot. Considering your mention about presets, I am just wondering which this is. Anyhow, nice work.

As for the second shot, well. I admit that I am quite prejudiced against bright colors and such. However, this is just subjective.

Further to my previous comment, as a shot I like the second one. It is just the colours that I am not too keen of.

Agree......the blur in the frame doesn't work. A slight vignette would be useful. I like this shot though.not too often you see kids sitting on a stoop anymore.

Im not digging the selective coloring of the first pic. I think it would look better if it was just desaturated evenly across the board.

Second pic is cool.
