My 20d really let me down tonight when I needed it during a banquet.

The camera simply would NOT turn on. Symptoms seem to be not using it for about a week or so, as this has happened once before. When this happened before, I took an eraser to the battery contacts and it fired right up.

No luck tonight. Both batteries fully charged and properly installed...

Any help? I am suppose to go shoot in the city tomorrow...

Just thinking aloud here but could this be something to do with the internal battery? Presumably this camera is some years old so it may have worn.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there even was an internal battery. Anyway I can check it out?

This camera surely has some shots/time under it's belt.

The internal battery does not affect the camera's ability to turn on and off. All it does is keep track of the date and time entered in the camera. Page 35 of the manual.

I have had my 20D for almost 4 years now and I have never had a problem with it turning on...wierd

ETA: a quick google search doesn't reveal much on the problem either!

I just thought the camera might have "forgotten" its settings or something similar. Looks like a trip to the Canon Service Centre in that case.

Guess I'll have to search for my nearest service center!

How about battery contacts in the actual camera, are they ok and touching the battery fine?

Should be. I'm using a brand new Canon battery grip now. Last time, the problem was w/o the grip. The camera does not turn on either when I tried it w/o the grip.

There's life! I took my rocket blower to the battery slot and a half-ass q-tip to the contacts and it worked!

I did put each battery into the charger for a bit even though they were fully charged - not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Either way, she's alive! Thanks!
