055SPK fitting tool required?

might be a silly question - has anyone who has fitted the 055SPK spiked feet to their tripod instead of the standard "bung" ends any suggestions as to how to correctly tighten the things so as to ensure they don't fall out & also not to damage them in the process?

They're essentially an expanding screw arrangement that don't seem to easily expand enough to get a good grip on the inside of the leg. The threaded bits you're supposed to tighten are made of plastic & I'm pretty concerned about mangling the thing while attempting to tighten it if I take to it with household tools. The "instructions" show the things being tightened by hand although try as I might, I can't get enough grip on the threaded bit to tighten it properly.

Reason I'm replacing mine is that one of the original feet is somewhere in a New Zealand riverbed...

you know it's possible to use tools but be gentle with them...

that'll get you a bit more grip to "hand tighten" using tools. No need to use the full leverage available to you.
