I need a favor.

Your 40D OEM BP-511 Canon battery came with a plastic, tray-type battery contact cover. So did the XT/XTi OEM NB2L Battery.

What I need to know is if those covers are interchangeable. Will the contact cover from the BP-511 fit on the NB2L and vice versa?

I think the footprint for the batteries is close, if not identical, but I don't have one of each in front of me to check!

Nope! The bp-511 is way too big.

Ahh.... thanks. I guess I was thinking that since the bodies are not that much different in size, the batteries might be similar is size (footprint, anyway)

Thanks for responding!

I ran a 30D and an XT and experienced problems. Of course the logistic problems were totally my fault and with some more careful planning could have been easily prevented.

I went down into Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico with my 30D and my XT and several charged batteries from my kit. I also brought my remote release for the 30D.

I don't know why I didn't monitor which batteries I was taking with me or that I only had the remote for the 30D along. I guess that my head was "you know where".

Anyway, of course the battery in the 30D went dead and I realized that I only had XT batteries with me. That would have been O.K. except that I didn't have the remote for the XT, only the one for the 30D.

I certainly didn't want to make the trip to the surface so, I just had make-do with the equipment I had on hand...

However, all was not lost... I used the self-timer to expose my Cavern images. It was a bit slower than I wanted to work since the XT has only a 10 second timer. I also learned to be more careful when using cameras that take two different sets of accessories.
