Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. I have upgraded the firmware and tried various exposures as suggested by a couple of you and still no usable shots.

I started uploading pics a couple of times but something went wrong. Now I have other computer issues to deal with, so I will try to post them when I can.

I gave up and sent the camera to Canon for a service because I need it soon for holidays. I'll post the results when they tell me the diagnosis.

Do you have the flash turned on? The fastest x-sync speed for the camera is 1/250, and when the flash is on, it won't allow the shutter to go any faster. Even if you're in Tv mode and set the shutter to 1/2000, when you take the shot it will reset it to 1/250 - and completely blow out an outdoor shot. That could explain why it works indoors, but not outdoors.
