You guys are talking about two different things.

You are talking about the software loading each core equally and the speed of the program scaling equally as each core is added.

nerksoft is simply stating that the software he is using will load all 24 of his cores. I don't believe he said it scaled linearly with each core.

And if I am not mistaken, they are also talking about different applications. I don't think Nekrosoft's claims apply to Premier, and I thought he stated that.

And unlike Premiere, I do believe that x265 encoder will scale up to as many cores as you can throw at it.

A buddy gave it to me about 15 years ago. Not sure where he picked it up.
Its very solid and with move of a lever will tuck under the desk.

While my computer build (built it in 2009) isn't as advanced or powerful as most others here, I recently picked up a preowned GTX 970 to replace my GTX 480 that I had been using for the last couple of years. I am not a gamer so i don't need cutting edge graphics, however I was seeing slow down in LR using 480 along with two Dell U2515H monitors (especially preview rendering on second screen while in develop mode), hence the decision to upgrade to the 970 (3 DP port version)

Should I expect to see any improvement with this upgrade using two monitors? (i7 2.6 / 18GB Ram / 512GB SSD + 2TBHDD + 1TB HDD )

ps: my choices were GTX 980 for about $240 or this 970 for $105 - While i know 980 is much better, but is it double better to justify the 100% price difference?

You likely won't see any difference at all with just a GPU upgrade. LR doesn't work very well with GPU acceleration at all in my experience. I went from an r9 280, to an r9 390 to a GTX 980 Ti and now I even have 2 of them in SLI... didn't see any noticeable improvements with any of those upgrades, in fact it works better with GPU acceleration turned off in my experience.

You're not wrong about LR, I'm actually one who is supposed to benefit from the GPU acceleration, as I'm running a Dell 5K display. I usually keep GPU acceleration off, as LR just seems to get flakey with it on. My system is a Dell XPS 8900 with i7 6700, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB M2 SSD and 2TB of HDD. It's running a 2GB Nvidia GTX 960 GPU.

I do all the things Adobe recommend, including keeping religiously up to date with my driver updates, Nvidia's driver update software is a bit of a PITA at times too. It's failed during the update process a couple of times. On one occasion I was left only being able to see either the left or right hand side of the display, depending on which of the two DP cables I left plugged in. I ended up having to get Dell tech support to reinstall the drivers remotely, since I couldn't do much only being able to see half the screen. I am almost considering dropping back a couple of versions of LR at the moment, thanks to it's newfound instability.

Thanks for confirming what i suspected (Groan). Anyway, I needed to update my GPU anyway because i wanted to DP ports but the GTX 480 only offered HDMI and DVI. I am hoping the DP ports will bring some improvement with my dual 2515 setup.

On another note, ever since i upgraded to the two Dell monitors i don't get to see my Bios screen anymore. Goes straight to the login screen after some time. To test, I removed the Dells and reconnected my older monitor and I could see the Bios screen on boot up. Normally this isn't a problem, but will be if there is a startup problem or if i need to access bios screen to change any settings - any ideas? (Tried different cables as well)

Are the monitors your having issues with right now DisplayPort monitors ? If so, not all cables are created equal. Some cables have Pin 20 connected which it should not be. It caused problems and would not let my computer come out of sleep mode if I did a soft shutdown.

Mate had this issue, but it wasn't consistent, sometimes it would shut down, sometimes it wouldn't start up, sometimes it was fine.
Eventually I found a pin out diagram for DP and put a test light on each of them, found pin 20 was connected on a cheap cable he had bought.
Found a single web page with reference to it as well, but have since found a few other forum posts scattered around that show it is a consistent but poorly understood issue.

I've run two Dell 2412 next to each other, one on DP and the other on VGA. There is NO difference between them in terms of image quality.
DP is only really an advantage if running 4k or high res, need very high refresh rates, or have a full 10bit work flow (GPU, Software and Monitor).

Yes, the Dell 2515H - at the moment they are connected to the GTX 480 - one via HDMI and other via DVI to HDMI (Using HDMI ports on the Monitors). Once I receive the 970, i will connect them via DP as the 970 has 3 DP ports. I had the same issue with my other two Dell Monitors (2415) that I moved to another machine running GEFORCE GPU - no issues with the on that machine.

Its a strange issue indeed. On computer one that has the GTX 480, Monitors other than the Dells (2515 or 2415) even when connected with the same HDMI or DVI-HDMI cables show BIOS, but when any of the 4x Dells is connected, the BIOS does not show up (So cables do not appear to be the problem)

The same Dell monitors when connected to computer 2 that has a Radeon GPU show BIOS perfectly fine, even with the same cables as above. I am stumped but its not a complete deal breaker as I have spare monitors that I can connect to Computer one if i need to access the BIOS - just a big nuisance that I would like to solve. Not sure if 970 will solve this issue but it remains to be seen once i receive it.

I'm pretty sure the issue with seeing the POST sequence on some monitors is simply because you have to have the drivers loaded before the computer can output to the screen(s). I have the same issue with my Dell UP2715K monitor too. They nolonger have a default "VGA" simulation mode that can display the basic information from the boot screen or BIOS setup screens.

So it's a feature, not a fault.

Which Drivers? GPU?
All the Dell monitors above (2x 2515 & 2x2415) show the Bios screen on my second computer....
