Which Drivers? GPU?
All the Dell monitors above (2x 2515 & 2x2415) show the Bios screen on my second computer....

I didn't really look too deeply into it, other than knowing it was to do with the fact that for Dell to get 5K @60 Hz they needed to use a GPU card with matched dual DP 1.2 ports to get enough data throughput. As far as I can tell this requires at least an Nvidia GTX960 GPU. Although there are some lower spec cards with dual DP 1.2 they are not configured to support this. Half the display is sent down each cable. I did have a driver error occur, so that I could only see either the left or right hand half of the screen, although spread out across the whole display. In the end I had Dell reinstall the Nvidia driver remotely.

The computer can only do the half and half drive of the monitor once Windows has loaded the Nvidia drivers. When you boot the computer the monitor is able to detect that a boot is in progress, and it displays a Dell logo on screen. You get the same logo when you first power the monitor, even if it is not plugged in.

I got this from reading reviews of the monitor before I bought it. I recall that there was mention of this type of thing being an issue with some other hiDPI monitors too. I still have a VGA monitor in the loft, so could use that with an adaptor if I really desperately needed to access the boot screens. I love the display, the resolution is great, and I actually run mine at 175% not the normally recommended 200%, because the added smoothness seems to make a slightly smaller font size work OK. Seeing what 219 PPI allows I would kill for a 27" plus sized monitor with a resolution in excess of 300 PPI

A quick update to my posts above:

I installed the GTX 970, fired up the computer and updated the drivers. I am happy to report that my BIOS/Post screen is back (YAY!). The two dell monitors (U2515H & U2515HX) are connected via DP cables.

Tried LR for a few minutes as I wasn't expecting much change, however LR does feel slightly (maybe 20-25%) faster but it could easily be a placebo effect since this was a quick and non scientific drive through. Checked LR preferences and its already recognizes GTX 970 and is checked to use GPU for acceleration.

One thing that is a bit puzzling is that Windows (7) now reports 2515HX as a Generic PnP monitor, whereas before upgrading the card and drivers it had recognized it properly. Native & recommended resolution on both monitors come up as 2560 x 1440 so I am not terribly bothered by why windows refuses to recognize the HX monitor. (I confirmed that I have the latest Dell drivers for both monitors)

I have seen Windows do that before. Ive never been to concerned as long as it works fine.

As far as improvements with the new GPU, LR wont see a huge increase. As you stated your probably seeing a small increase because of more RAM and higher speeds. You should definitely see other increases though. Being a 2009 MOBO does it have PCIe 3.0?

As always I remind everyone to know your cables. I see so many 4k TVs and moniters using HDMI cables that cant support it. Same with DP.

I just put in an order for a Dell XPS 8920. I am not a computer expert but it was time to upgrade my '09 era PC. I'm hopeful it will do everything I need in Photoshop and Lightroom.

XPS 8920
7th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.2 GHz)
Windows 10 Home-HE (64bit) English
24GB, 2400MHz, DDR4 up to 64GB (Additional memory sold separately)
256GB M.2 PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

My current rig for editing is:

Intel x99 5930 cooled by a Fractal Kelvin S24 LC AiO
G.Skill 64Gb RAM
nVidia Quadro 4200

1 x Plextor 256Gb NVMe drive for OS (using a 1Gb RAM drive)
2 x 6Tb drives (mirrored backup) WD Black
1 x 64Gb SSD as a temp/scratch disk (Old drive re-purposed)
1 x WD Green 2Tb Version Control drive (being phased out in lieu of using the NAS).

It's all contained in a Fractal Define case with a Seasonic 550w fanless PSU. This computer is near silent even under heavy load. This rig is complimented by a Surface Pro in the field.

The system is often switched between Windows 10 or vSphere depending on reqs by adding an extra SSD and changing boot order. So far since I built it there's been no stability or hardware failures other than the initial nVidia Quadra driver issues (nVidia tends to FUBAR on new OS builds).

Some call me the Heilan' Laddie, but others call me Rob.

Lol I am from the past I guess!

I have my machine 3 years. I bought older HP Elitebook 8560w.
i5 2.5 (up to 3.06) Ghz
4Gb ram (i need to upgrade)
120 SSD + 250 SSD in upgrade bay
fHD DreamColor display
Quadro FX1000M
this super fast machine is from 2009!

and this - ladies and gentlemen - runs fu**ing faster than MBP 15" late 2014. Intel IRIS Pro is SH*T. I was so mad when I bought that MPB. I returned it within 10 days ofc. Because the is not worth the money. Iris PRO cannot work with Photoshop properly. I was getting artifact when smooth zooming and it was slow. But yeah I admit expensive MBP15 is not for photo editing, you have to have the other version - super expensive MBP with dedicated GPU to run everything super smoothly. I am a really big fan of Apple but this really disappointed me.

I love tough and fast notebooks so my next Elitebook will be the same, but 17", with Quadro FX3000M, 16Gb ram and i7 inside and I will be still kicking some a** :P

I went digital storm for last build. Over 2 years old and going strong. Before that I had built my previous 4. I wanted fancy custom liquid coolimg and
did not want to fuss with it. Likely I will build my next one again.

So I'm finishing up my new build now, the only things I have left to purchase are the monitor & PSU, and I need to get that done this weekend so I can assemble next weekend and be done with the mess in the office before the EOM. Looking to get a sufficient but quiet PSU if anyone has any suggestions.

Mobo: Asus PRIME X299-Deluxe
CPU: Intel i7-7820X
CPU heat sink & cooler: Noctua NF-A15
RAM: 4 x Corsair Dominator 3000 16 GB = 64 GB
M.2 NVMe SSD: Samsung SM961 500 GB
M.2 NVMe SSD: Samsung SM961 1 TB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Quadro P4000

I already have an external redundant hard drive array for long-term storage, but I'll be dual-booting on one of the SSDs and using the other for working data. This machine isn't solely for photo editing, but it should be pretty sweet for that work. The graphics card can drive four 10-bit displays, not that I'm likely to be using that many, perhaps 2 eventually.

So yeah, need to pick up a PSU now, looking at things like the EVGA Supernova line, Seasonic, some Corsair models.

I'm putting all this inside my old Lian-Li case from many years ago, with sound insulation on the walls. Using a few Noctua NF-S12A PWM fans for quiet case cooling. And this weekend I'm picking up either the EIZO CS2730 or NEC PA272W.

Cameras: Sony α7R II, Canon 40D, Samsung Galaxy S7
Lenses: Canon 11-24mm f/4 L, 24-70mm f/2.8 L II, 50mm f/1.8 II, Sigma 18-200mm
Telescope: Meade LXD55 SN-6" F=762mm f/5, with a 2x Barlow T-Mount
Retired Cameras: Canon SD300, Nokia N95, Galaxy S, S3 & S4

I'm running a XFX P1-850B-BEFX 850W (rebranded Seasonic) that is dead quite, but even if it made noise I wouldn't here it over my 12, 120mm radiator fans anyway. I believe it has been replaced by a newer model now. It has plenty of power and even more after I pulled one of my 290X video cards out.

Lian-Li? Seasonic? some blast from the past names there!

Time was there were about two brands of PSU that were worth buying. (Back when Lian-Li cases were advertised in the back of Computer Shopper magazine) PC Power and Cooling was the other one :)

Times have changed, and when I did my build about two years back, I did my research and ended up with an EVGA as well. It's been rock solid, and I have no complaints.

I'm curious what tools you're using on the portrait screen on the left... looks like you have something that displays system info on the desktop, and are using some kind of performance monitor too that is different than the built-in one in Windows.
