Hey guys,

Very first time shooting anything like this and first time shooting a car.. So please take it easy on me!

Well a friend asked that i shoot his 2003 WRX for a magizine he was looking to submit too. Well i did the shoot the day sucked. This was the last day he had to submit so i am processing them as we speak so he can submit them tomorrow morning.

The day is extremely over cast, I am sicker than a dog.. i am shocked i could even get the lens on the body :(

Well here is one shot to share, a total scew up yet kind of looks good. He wanted a dive by shot which i said fine to this was the end of our day and we where ready to go home so i put the 70-200 2.8L on my 1D MarkIII did the shot got home and looked at it and wondered WTF.. checked out the file settings.. F22 and ISO800.. Humm... Yea.... God i hope the rest of his shots turn out decent.. Yes i am a moron but i will show more as i process them.

Well here is the shot, he did a lap around the building and i told him to come in nice and easy... well i heard him comming then i heard the engine roar... i freaked out and i think this is where i screwed up my settings.. he blew past me like a flash... thank god i had it in H for the frames per second.

Ummmmmm last time I checked, not only is that not an '03, but it's not just a wrx either. That being said the first phot turned out pretty good for a "mess up". The second photo doesn't really do much for me, way to tight of a crop, and it appears as though the camera was in a in between hieght. A little higher, or a little lower would have made the photo more appealing. Hope you feel better.

Caspita,

I will have to get the complete details from the owner. Its a completely almost rebuilt.. The car is oringally a 2003 WRX, however it has a 2007 front end of it, 2004 back end on it and a few other things.. Its a very unique car that was rebuilt after an accident.

The backgrounds are very distracting. Unfortunately the bad scenery and deep DOF ruin a lot of the shots for me.

I agree on the backgrounds and i could not get the car far enough from them to blur it out and i could not talk the owner of the car to change locations. The big trucks in the background was the idea he wanted. I was being paid to shoot the shots not come up with the ideas aparently :D

As for the DOF i shot at 5.6 - F4 being the lowest i could have gone on the lens i dont think it would have made that much difference.

I did shoot using a Cpol filter to clean up the shots and try and reduce the glare as much as possible.

HAHA, That'll teach you not to judge a book by it's cover!

I really like the first shot...... but i'd have to agree that the other pics suffer from a distracting background.

Yea he is firing off the link to the editor of the mag today and asking if they would consider his car for next month instead.. So that way he wants to do some night time shots of the car too.

So i agree on the background issues..

How about the actual shots of the car? I mean the lines, the angles. If i had clean backgrounds would the shots of the car be fine?

I think the shots look fine other then flash - but you really couldn't help that. Hopefully your next shoot the weather will treat you a little better. Another thing I noticed:

Turn the wheel the OTHER way! :)

Some B&W conversions might look nice.

Yea he wanted the treads out, Why i am not sure i would have rather showed off the rims, i did make it a point to get a couple of rim shots.

The flash kind of pissed me off as i was origally shooting through a difuser umbrella however the wind took it and knocked it over on me and wrecked it.. So i was shooting with my wireless flash on the light stand so it was alittle harsher than i wanted.

Wow, the weather REALLY wasn't on your side. Good luck if you do another shoot.

I like the rolling shot. If you don't look closely & see that there's no driver in the truck, it looks like a shot on the highway. You have the front in focus where it counts.

i really was not keen on the location but i had not choice in the matter.

It's part of your job to educate the client, & if you can't do that, then try "I'll shoot some your way & then we'll shoot some my way."

I suggested to him to do a night shot,

Go out early & do some in this light, too:
