Hello all. I've been lurking around the forums for some time but this is my first photo post. My husband has a Canon 40D and we went to a local park one day for some bird photos. He let me play with his camera and the very next day we made a trip to Best Buy to pick mine up. I was hooked instantly!! It's so addicting!!

These are some shots that I took while at a butterfly conservatory in Put-In-Bay Island in Lake Erie Ohio. I am VERY new to macro photography (well photography in general). This is my first try at macro as well as editing. These were taken with the 18-55mm kit lens and my Rebel XTI.

Comments and Critiques are welcome and appreciated as I am trying very hard to learn. Go easy on me ;) hehe

Not sure they all qualify as 'macro shots' but they are really quite lovely. You should try bump the contrast on them to make them pop some more. But nice shots nonetheless, very crisp.

Lovely shots - try to keep subjects off centre as you have in #1 - giving them more headroom in the direction they are looking works in most cases.

Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you like them.

BrianV. - My husband told me the same thing about keeping them off center. Thats a bad habit I need to break myself of! For some reason I always want to center everything then I catch myself. (I guess I didn't catch myself in these ones lol) BTW I love your dewdrop photos, they are simply amazing!!

Thanks again everyone!!

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate the compliments!! We are planning to go to the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh next weekend to another butterfly exhibit so hopefully I'll get some more practice ;)
