This pale-winged starling in Namibia's Fish River valley (the second largest canyon in the world) was very used to tourists visiting the grand view point, but before I got a close-up of the eye, it decided to take off.

You did pretty well though, even if the third one does fall into the "record shot" category! :) That first one is a real corker.

Hi Olli,

The first two are striking... what an eye he has!
Too bad he took off before you could get closer, but are his wing tips really as "pale" as they appear in the third shot?

It would seem we missed seeing 4 and 5 maybe ... or?

Anyway, that's a very interesting looking bird. Thanks for showing him here.

Kenn

Cheers, Ken. The third one is actually one of my favorites. ;):D

Thaks Kenn. Yes, the wing tips are really pale and visible only when he's flying. Here (external link)is one more googled picture.

This was such a great day! All wonderful shots but for me the one with the Starling looking out over the canyon surveying his kingdom is a real winner, absolutely cracking shot mate!! I only wish I'd thought of it :)

The canyon shot with the bird checking out the view, is certainly an eye opener... Good job.
