Rip it up

I don't know why it is but so many self-portraits (even as far back as Rembrandt van Rijn) are overly dark.

Regardless, it is quite interesting. I think the most obvious and easy thing to have done to improve upon it would be to get the lighting at a slightly lower angle in order to creat facial shadows that are closer to 45 degrees. I would also like to see a catchlight in the one eye, at least.
