My next camera, theoretically, depending on its actual release and my financial solvency…but really, 6X6 and 6X7, a good introduction to medium-format, the Holga notwithstanding...and a new film camera; very encouraging:

(yes, I know, a similar prototype popped up last year (in silver), but this seems closer to the final production)

Good luck, it would be interesting to try such a camera...

Ive actually gone back to Film also. Im shooting landscapes with a 6x17 Fotoman. You can see it here http://www.fotomancamera.com (external link)

Sample of pics and the format ratio is below.

Cant beat Film...especially medium to large format. 6x17cm format creates a 1 Gigabyte file and can be blown up with perfect resolution as large as 2 meters wide.

You can always use both…

Yeah, until more information surfaces (let alone the actual camera), everything is still conditional, but the dual format (6X6, 6X7) function is very enticing, especially if the camera (which inherently includes the lens) comes out cheaper than a Mamiya 7II rangefinder.

I love the fact that Fotoman makes an 8X10 that can be hand held, depending on the strength of the photographer, I would assume. From what I understand, the PS designation on their large format cameras actually means point & shoot…excellent.

Prices aren't bad, either…and I would think that a digital version of your 6X17 isn't in the works at any company at this point…

Does it take SD or CF?

Oh wait.

Oh, if it's SD, I ain't buying it; because, well, then it wouldn't be for pros…

Well I have a couple SD that are for my P&S and the 2nd slot of my 1D II, so I'd be good for awhile.

A friend of mine when they found out I had gone back to LF film asked me how I went previewing the shot now I was using film again on a basic manual camera ... and could I use a polaroid back to see if I had the exposure right etc.

I told him my 20 +40d not only made great exposure meters but were great polaroid replacements!

He said that there was something wrong with me :)

Clipper, that shot of the Apostles is absolutely amazing!

It's rare to see such a breathtaking shot of a landmark that is so frequently photographed.

Now...I must ask...is your Fotoman hitting 6.5fps?

Not exactly....try 1 frame every 1 minute! (that includes rolling the film on and resetting aperture and shutter) (: ......Very frustrating when a sunset changes by the second. Basically a sunset is one shot , no bracketing and hope for the best.

Good question. Also, how many Fotoman cameras do you see on the sideline of a football field?

I actually have taken panoramas (6x17cm) of a soccer match...handheld at 120th second and Hyperfocal distance preset....Placed myself right next to the net using the equivalent of a 19mm lens in 35mm talk(90mm rodenstock lens) . They actually came out ok! and I even caught the ball coming to the net. The players loved it because it was that wide it nearly had the whole team in the shot!!! :)

Wouldnt recommend it for normal Sports photography though as you have to change film after 4 shots (: .

Normally leave leave sports shooting to my 40d which does the job very well

I would think that you would get some unique shots with that…like photojournalist David Burnett's use of a Holga to cover the 2002 Winter Olympics…

One of my favorite Sports Illustrated covers of recent years was an April 2001 issue featuring Tiger Woods on the cover from a more wide-angle take:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com …/main/coverlarge0416.html (external link)

Anyway, should some fool try to belittle the Fotoman due to its limited presence on the sidelines, I'll direct them your way…
