I always test any newly aquired lens in the worst case scenario like 3200ISO at full aperture just to see how bad the lens can get,, just to see its limitations.. Mostly I've been surprised at the results especially my Sigma EX 50-150mm F/2.8 and Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8.. If a lens gets acceptable images at 3200ISO at F/2.8 imagine what it can do at 100ISO at F/8..

I find they call it like it is. It's very complementary of Sigma's 150mm f/2.8 macro, for example, but adds, "You should know that there are some potential issues with third party lenses. Since Sigma reverse engineers (vs. licenses) manufacturer AF routines, there is always the possibility that a new body might not support an older third party lens. There are examples of this happening in the past. Sometimes a lens can be rechipped to be made compatible, sometimes not." Canon does not make a lens in the zoom range anf f/2.8 like you are looking for, but Tokina does. And, the couple of reviews I have seen for the Tokina rates it highly. I had a Tokina 17mm up until 2-3 years ago and always thought it to be a decent lens and it had a metal body, not plastic. Tokina does not seem to have the future compatibility issues Sigma sometimes has. Name the last lens/camera combo to have a problem, what makes you think Tokina reverse engineering is better than Sigma? Anyway don't sigma rechip your lens for free if that happens. My Website

I have a new Sigma 50-150 f2.8 that front focussed a bit above f5.6 (below 5.6 it was sharp as could be). I took it in to Sigma last week, and they updated the firmware and calibrated it. Now its bang-on at f2.8 and very sharp.

I have no interest in committing to memory Sigma's problems. I have no interest in the particulars of products I don't use. ...what makes you think Tokina reverse engineering is better than Sigma? Don't know that it is, just passing on other member's experiences that have been posted. Anyway don't sigma rechip your lens for free if that happens. I understand they do, if they can. I know Canon does not rechip their lenses. ***
