Ok I got the 50D and its only on its second day. I got one error 99 and fixed it the usual way, however I keep getting problems with the display screen on live view. When I go to focus the live view it will turn all black except for a small portion of the window on top. I took a picture to see if its just the screen but in reviewing the picture it was the same as what the live view showed. All other pics could be viewed no problem. I turned he camera off and on and sometimes it would work and sometimes not. As for taking pictures without live view that is no problem. So I still got to play with it today.

Now the next problem was the camera saying their was an error between the camera and the lense (error 1) and the circuit points needed cleaning. Im using the canon 85mm 1.8 and the sigma 24-70 and it happened on both lenses. Now this only a two day old camera with brand new lenses. So they could be dirty!

I can understand bugs in a new camera b/c its new but is this ok?
Should this be sent to canon for repairs or exchanged or something else?

A brand new camera that fails? Return it to the seller. Totally unacceptable.

Agreed, I wouldnt give that camera a 2nd thought. I'd box it up and take it back or send it back, to wherever you got it & get a replacement.

One would be enough for me to return it.

Return it, no way in hell this would be acceptable for a new camera.

So the 40 & 50D are junk are. Nice. Here is an idea Canon. Stop pushing out new camera models (50D, 5DII) and focus your efforts on QC and fixes for the stuff in the field.

Canon 30D & 40D, Canon 50/1.4 USM, Canon 24-85/4-5.6 IS USM, Canon 75-300/4-5.6,

You got a bad one. Happens. But does not mean you have to keep it. Send it back.

Unless the place you bought it from charges a restocking fee, but that is another story.

just thought that I would give an update on my camera. i had a couple canon dealers in my city take a look and they said that the shutter wasnt always returning to its original position but would sometimes get stuck half way. It was sent back to my online dealer who fortunately lives just about across the street from canon beijing. As long as canon could find that there was a problem they would exchange it. No problems were found. My online line dealer talked to them and then let me talk to the tech. They still couldnt find anything wrong. I told them to please be understanding that the problem doesnt always occur, and to hold on to it for a little longer and test it before sending it back to me. Long story short the problem was never found. Fortunately in explaining the problem to my dealer I also sent a picture (over the internet) of what what it looked like if I took a pic with the shutter half way stuck. After about a week at canon my dealer took the pic I sent to him to canon and as soon as they saw the picture they offered an immediate exchange. :D

When I studied business and worked in a restaurant they had a saying that 8 or 9 people out of ten would tell of their bad experience and tell how bad that company is to someone else. Only one or two people would tell of the good experience they had.

No company is perfect and I know with electronics its even more so. I think canon served me well even if they wouldnt have changed the camera (due to not finding the problem) but I am more than thankful that in the end, due to the picture, the problem was found.

I think pgruiz123 said it correctly and that was the attitude I took.
