the first and last are a bit grainy, you can try to fix it using the photoshop filter "dust and despeckable.... have everything on the left though)" or maybe go back (if possible) and use a tripod if they allow you.

Is that a E8? if so, thats my favorite engine.

Equipment: Canon PowerShot A650IS (semi retired) and Canon Powershot G10 (primary) and Rebel XT 350D w/18-55mm kit lens and Quanterey 18-200mm-- www.youtube.com/alexander1485 (external link) (has links to some of my pictures on the main page)

The images are shot and processed as I intended. Why would I need to go back with a tripod?

Nice shots, Dan. Oddly enough I'm a lot closer to Strasburg than you are, yet I've never been there! I'll have to get my bum over there one of these days.

Isn't the answer to that in the comment? You could have used ISO 100, instead of 1250. Or do you just like the noise? Personally, I like grain, but noise doesn't look the same.

Thanks Don...it is worth the trip if you like trains or just stepping back in time. Lancaster County is full of interesting things to shoot.

Have you subscribed to Pennsylvania Pursuits Magazine? If not, I recommend it. It's free, published by the PA Tourism Board (or Commission or Department or whatever they call themselves) and it has tons of information about things to do & see in PA.

They put it out quarterly. I just received a new one a couple weeks ago. You can get it here: http://www.visitpa.com/RequestVisitorsGuide.aspx (external link)

Tripods are not allowed. Flash causes a reflection nightmare...so you go with high ISO and make the best of it. The images were processed with a LR preset that adds noise and texture....then some were smoothed back out with a second step. While the photos might not be to everyone's taste...I also know that there is a segment of the photo community that takes the images for what they are....my vision.

Tripods are not allowed.

How about a monopod? Or a cane, the kind with 4 little feet at the bottom, with a 1/4"-20 thread bolt screwed into the top? ;)

Screw one of these to the bolt:

Wait...how about the amazing string pod?

Actually, they would rather you came with nothing more than a point and shoot. Commercial photography of any type is prohibited.

Commercial photography of any type is prohibited.

I guess I can understand that. OTOH, I would think that they should appreciate any coverage they could get to increase admissions. Making it harder to get good shots isn't going to encourage photogs to want to pay at the door.
