These were a lot of fun to shoot. 40 or 50 jumps until she was tired and was done jumping. I know I'm going to be in trouble tonight because she complained this morning that she coulnd't walk because her quads were sore.

I learned how to shoot this picture from the strobist website.... I never would have attempted something like this without learning stuff from David Hobby. Far from perfect, but getting there.

More info coming on my blog listed in my .sig

That second shot is awesome! Can you give me the link to that web site? I'm guessing she stuck her hand out to the point where she was going to jump while standing on the rock so you could autofocus on her hand. Then she jumped and you are already in focus and the timing is much easier.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

The Strobist (external link)website introduced me to lighting off-camera and gave me the confidence to try to do something like this.

The technique for the shot involved laying down on the ground and shooting up to get rid of all the clutter on the ground; telephone wires, cars, trees, etc. I used the setting sun as a fill light to the subjects left, while my off-camera flash was just to camera right, pointing up at the falling subject. The rock was about 3' high, they had to jump another foot or so up in the air.

AI Servo mode tracked the subject from the rock to the point in space where I snapped the pic.

Nice work. I would have thought she was much more than 4' off the ground. She looks like she really got into the jump and pose.
