I'm quite interested in this camera, but I've read of softness issues with lower end lenses. Right now i've only got a few budget lenses. 18-55 IS Kit, 55-250 IS and Nifty Fifty.

Will I really have a lot of problems using my budget lenses? (Or even with said problems is it a worthy upgrade from the XS?)

None whatsoever. I have those in my possession and am particularly fond of the 50mm on the 50D. I bought the EF-S focusing screen and leave the lens on MF all the time.

Great photos as always from you people. Here are a few more.
So the 2010 Worldwide photo walk was today. I'm not sure how many of you followed the event on the internet. Also Youtube was promoting the other side of that, the film version Life in a Day. Anyway I just got back from the photo walk and it was amazing. 50 were signed up, but about 35 made it to the walk. Only 29 made it to lunch two hours later.

I met great people, tried out a Nikon D3 (aaah don't kill me but the damn thing was incredible. Did I forget to mention he had the Nikon 17-35 f/2.8 EDIF AFS lens attached? It was gorgeous) got two business cards for local photography groups, and one phone number from a cute female photog.

Well the competition on flickr for our walk allows three photos to be entered per person with the overall winning photo receiving a prize. I kinda want your opinion.

The whole "taking a photo of someone else taking a photo" has been done to death.

I'd go for the one with the chairs in B&W - Very abstract. Very cool.

Any idea as to what would cause my cameras, when shooting RAW+jpg, to end up having both images the same file size, that of the jpeg? the other is a 450D.
RAW was full size as was jpeg, but yet both files the same? It also is only displaying one image in the playback rather than both.

I tried clearing settings, choosing standard rather than user defined, killed the noise reduction, and tried Tv Av and M modes. Raw by itself seems to work fine and jpeg by itself is fine.
Thanks ahead of time
Brian

Does anyone knows how to set the shot button to let the shutter be open long. In bulb u take a long shot as long as you have the finger on the button. Can it be set to press it once, let the shutter open and press it again when you want and close the shutter?
Thanks

in this case you dont really want to press the shutter button and get camera shake etc. most cable releases have a lock function to lock the shutter open until you release it. my cble release cost HK$ 35 only . worth the investment

That would be the "T" setting. It was available on older cameras. AFAIK, it's not an option on modern DSLRs.

Some of the remote shutter releases have that option, but the camera itself does not.

Thanks! I ended up going with the top-down patio chair shadows, the firetruck, and street lamp/building shots.

Not about the winning, but it's fun to try! Super great time. For you that didn't have one in your area, i suggest you try to find one for next year. You can bet I'll be going.
